The rationale behind this relationship is that investors willing to take on risky investments and potentially lose money should be rewarded for their risk. In part, the research shows that at times, even though one will observe volatility in the markets, the world financial markets perform well over long periods of time.
Aiming to be consistent with our investment philosophy, we’d prefer our clients target a minimum of a 5-7 year time horizon which affords us the ability to capture the returns that the markets provide, and all in a low-cost and tax-efficient manner.

Slow, steady and disciplined is one of the basic mottos of our investing, therefore, we don’t like to pay too much attention to headlines or any of the emotionally charged financial radio shows or news programs.
Within this same vein of impulse driven financial literacy hibernation, we don’t promote gambling in the market and recommend our clients resist the pressure of a hot stock tip, rumors of a takeover, IPOs, financial headlines, trying to guess the markets’ direction or the active-manager/flavor of the month.
The undisciplined investor may experience a series of disappointments when he/she tries to predict or time the market; which leads to buying and selling emotionally. This type of “investing” can have a negative impact when the client buys high and sells low. As client educators, we have a hard enough time guiding our clients to stay on course when they express the urge to veer off their personalized goal-oriented plan due to dramatic events. These include market activity or worldwide events such as a decline in the client’s portfolio or headlines that speak of doom and gloom ahead; interest rate changes, a war, overvalued sector heading for a bubble… (In fact, when there is drop in the “market”, for the right client this may actually be the best time to buy more and benefit from the bargain prices).
After taking our Risk Tolerance Questionnaire, we build a portfolio tailored to match an investor’s ability, willingness and need to take risk. We want our clients to keep as much of what they earn. Therefore, we are sensitive to controlling overall costs and maximizing tax efficiency.
